Section Wise EPFO SSA Preparation Tips
Important Topics for Reasoning: This section consist of 20 questions from various topics like puzzles (seating arrangement, linear seating arrangement, floor based), syllogism, data sufficiency, statement based questions, Inequality, Coding-Decoding, Input-Output and logical reasoning.

  • A lot of questions require proper techniques and step-by-step solving. You need to come out with your own tricks for the sums you find. Some questions can be tricky that will require your attention.

  • There are some topics that are time-consuming. Therefore, you need to practice various tests beforehand to know how much time you spend on each question.

  • All arrangement questions need daily practice as they are very time-consuming. Hence, you must prepare an effective time management strategy for the exam.

  • Arrangement Problems require clean charting with proper technique and step-by-step solving.These questions are puzzle-like and can be quite tricky. However, moderate to high accuracy is possible.

  • You need to first do the questions that you are familiar with. This will give you confidence & save time.

  • While solving mock tests, solve these questions when you have a lot of time.It will help you to give more time to these confusing questions. You can remember all your tricks that time.

  • Check the questions previous year Question Paper & practice them. These will help you in a better preparation for Reasoning section & you will analyze how much time you are taking to solve them.

  • Practice on App daily. You can do this anywhere you want or if you are free.

  • Give mock tests to prepare yourself completely. The more you solve, the more you will become efficient.

  • Read important books related to NABARD which will provide important insights for Reasoning Section, too.
Important Topics for English Language: This section has 40 questions. The paper generally include questions on Reading Comprehension, Cloze test, Sentence improvement, Fill in the blanks, Sentence correction, Spotting the errors and Sentence rearrangement.
Reading Comprehension

  • Reading comprehension (RC) will have 10-15 questions.

  • Passage will be based on topics like Banking & Economy, Business, Social Issues, etc.

  • Questions will be based on Fact and Inference, Vocab & Theme, Antonyms & Synonyms, etc.

  • Questions can also be based directly on the content of the passage. But you must be alert while choosing
  • the correct option due to the similarity of the questions.

  • Questions can also be asked on the Theme of Passage & author’s opinion.

  • The passages are of a medium length so you must improve your speed of reading and understanding the intent of the passage well within the stipulated time.

  • Practice one RC daily from questions available on the app. Constant practice will help you achieve accuracy in lesser time.

  • Go through some Reading Comprehension tips to note down the mistakes you make in tackling the comprehensions.

Error Spotting and Phrase Replacement

  • Questions will be asked on the basic Grammar Concepts of Tenses.

  • It will be based on Articles, Prepositions, Degree of comparison, Subject-Verb Agreement, Conjunctions, Parts of Speech, Standard Construction, Adverbs, Number in Nouns.

  • Try to know the basic rules of Grammar to solve with full accuracy.

  • Go through the lessons and articles for Error Spotting tips.

  • Practice the grammar questions related to error spotting and phrase replacement.

  • This section will have 5-10 Qs.

Cloze Test

  • Read Thoroughly– Read the passage provided very thoroughly to form an idea about the topic. Read slowly and gain an understanding of the text. Once the theme of the text is somewhat clear, your job becomes easier. You can then go on to think of the appropriate words that suit the situation being described and proceed to fill in the blanks.

  • Link the Sentences Together- Remember that it is a passage with sentences that are connected to each other. Do not make the mistake of treating each sentence like an individual one and filling in the blanks accordingly. Try to come up with logical connections that link up the sentences together and your job will automatically become easier.

  • The Type of Word to Fill in– Now look at the blanks carefully and assess the kind of words you have to fill in. Which part of speech would it be? Would it be a noun, a pronoun, a verb, a preposition, a conjunction or an article? For example-

  • A noun– I forgot to carry my ____ to school. I therefore, had to share with my friend. The logical answer here would be a book or tiffin.
    An article– He ate ____ papaya and threw ___ seeds away. Articles are usually the easiest to answer. Fill in ‘a’ and ‘an’ were talking about general facts and ‘the’ when using it before something specific. Here, the answer is ‘the’ or ‘his’ in the first case and ‘the’ or ‘its’ in the second.
    A verb– _____ for half an hour left me breathless. The idea of being breathless connotes something strenuous like ‘exercising’ or ‘running’. In this way, think of the appropriate word to fill in.
  • Eliminate Options– You will often come across a blank that has more than one correct option. List out all these options and try them one by one. Use the one that seems most fitting. Instead of getting confused, think of words that are appropriate not only to the given sentence but also fit the context of the entire passage.
  • Build up Your Language Skills– In terms of the general preparation, you can do, read, read and read as much as you can. The more you read, the better sense you will have of what word goes where. It will also help build up your vocabulary. Both these things will go a long way in helping you ace the Cloze Test.

  • Practice makes a man perfect– In the end, there is no substitute for hard work and practice. Try to complete three to four passages each day while preparing and get an insight into your problem areas. Work on them and go deliver your best.
Important Topics for General Awareness: This section has 40 questions. including questions from Current Affairs and Banking and Economy.

  • You should keep reading newspapers such as The Hindu and The Indian Express for analysis and important news.

  • Follow Static GK for information on various topics from History, Economics, Geography and much more.

  • Try to cover the last 3-4 months news i.e. Appointments, RBI in the news, Awards and Honours, Sports, New Schemes, National and International News, Latest Developments in Science and Technology.

  • You can also refer to any current affairs magazine.
Important Topics for Quantitative Aptitude: This section has 20 questions. including questions from like Data Interpretation, Caselet DI, Number Series, Data Sufficiency and Some Miscellaneous questions. The miscellaneous questions have questions from profit and loss, age, average, simple and compound interest, boat and stream, time and work, area. The kinds of questions you need to prepare properly are:
Data Interpretation – You need to practice various types of questions such as Line Graphs, Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Tables, Miscellaneous Infographics, etc. The key to accuracy in Quant is being clear with your formulae and concepts.
Mensuration– Mensuration requires no calculations. This means your ability to think will ensure your success in these questions.
Number Series – For these questions, you must devise your own tricks and techniques.
Miscellaneous Questions– Average, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Time Speed Distance, Boat & Stream, Profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest, Time & Work, Problems on Age, Probability, Permutation & Combination, etc. are asked in Miscellaneous.
