• The government said in Parliament that no decision has been taken as of now to prepare a nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC).


• This is the first time such an admission has ben made in Parliament and it comes against the backdrop of protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, or CAA, and the proposed NRC.


• It also claimed that when data for National Population Register (NPR) is collected between April and September, no documents will be sought nor any verification is carried out to identify individuals whose citizenship is in doubt.

• A week after adopting a resolution in the Andhra Pradesh assembly abolishing the state legislative council, the YSR Congress Party-led government has refused to acknowledge the constitution of select committees of the Upper House to look into the two bills related to the creation of three capitals.


• Legislative council chairperson Mohammed Ahmed Shariff had announced the constitution of the two select committees—one to study AP Capital Region Development Authority Repeal Bill, 2020, and another for the decentralization bill.

• RBI’s petition was mentioned by senior lawyer Rakesh Dwivedi before a bench comprising Chief Justices S A Bobde and BR Gavai and Surya Kant for an urgent hearing.

• Former rebel leader Albin Kurti (44 years) has been appointed as the new and 4th Prime Minister (PM) of the Republic of Kosovo by its parliament.
