• Pakistan conducted a successful training launch of nuclear-capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile ‘Ghaznavi’, which can strike targets up to 290 kilometers.


• “The training launch was part of Field Training Exercise of Army Strategic Forces Command aimed at rehearsing operational readiness procedures during day and night,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the army, said in a statement.


• The ‘Ghaznavi’ missile is capable of delivering multiple types of warheads up to a range of 290 kilometers, the statement said.

• The International Court of Justice said that it has jurisdiction to hear a case against Myanmar seeking emergency measures to prevent it committing genocide against its Rohingya minority.


• Presiding Judge Yusuf Abdulqawi, in the first minutes of reading the court’s decision, said the court does have sufficient jurisdiction to decide on the request for emergency measures in the case, which was brought by the Gambia.

• The rapidly spreading novel Coronavirus has killed 25 people and sickened at least 830 people across China, the latest official statement said as millions in the country in five cities have been put under lockdown in an attempt to control the outbreak.


• As many 24 deaths have been reported from the central Chinese province of Hubei; one has been reported from Hebei, a province bordering Beijing. Another 177 people elsewhere in the country are critical, the government said.

• Students living in New Jersey who are children of foreign workers on H1B visas will now qualify for the more affordable in-state tuition for higher education at the states public institutions.


• New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation that exempts students whose parents or guardians hold H1B visas from paying out-of-state tuition charges, subject to criteria that include graduating from a New Jersey high school and having attended a New Jersey high school for at least three years.

• Sukumar Sen had served as the first Chief Election Commissioner of India from March 21, 1950, till 19th December 1958.

• Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will arrive in India on a four-day visit beginning Friday with an aim to "re-energise" the bilateral strategic partnership by boosting trade and investment, and deepening cooperation in key sectors such as defence and energy.

• CTET 2020 registration will begin today for the July exam. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to ascertain eligibility of teachers for primary classes, i.e. Classes 1 to 8.

• Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Chairman Ajay Tyagi on January 23 said the regulator will adopt artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), big data analytics and natural language processing tools to monitor and analyse spot market manipulation, PTI reported.


• "Catching malpractices in the market using the standard tools that analyse only structured data of price and volume is increasingly getting difficult," Tyagi said. As per the plan, a “data lake” project will be created to augment analytical capabilities.
