Washington, United States: The US Department of Defense announced approval to sell new KC-46 Pegasus aerial refuelling aircraft to its staunch Middle East ally Israel.

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced a 50 per cent concession on bus fares for women travelling in government and state-run PRTC buses, as well as 5000 new mini bus route permits in the next two years to benefit the state's unemployed youth. Another 2000 route permits would be provided for regular 52-seater stage carriage buses during the next two years, the Chief Minister announced.

The state government is trying to ensure that streets should be safe for the women and girls and their contribution to economic activity could be increased, Aruna Chaudhary, Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development said. Experts from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have confirmed that an industrial autoclave seized from the Chinese ship Dai Cui Yun can be used for the manufacture of very long-range ballistic missiles or satellite launch rockets. The ship was detained by Customs at Kandla Port while en-route to Port Qasim, Karachi, on February 3 on the basis of an intelligence tip-off and allowed to proceed to the Pakistani port on February 20 after the so-called dual-use (civilian and military) equipment was seized. The autoclave was misdeclared as an industrial dryer.

The Supreme Court ended a 2018 ban on banks from dealing in virtual currencies such as cryptocurrencies including bitcoins. A three-judge bench led by Justice Rohinton Nariman quashed the Reserve Bank of India notification issued in April 2018 that had introduced the restriction.
The central bank’s decision had been challenged by the industry grouping Internet and Mobile Association of India (IMAI), which questioned the RBI’s powers to impose the ban since cryptocurrencies weren’t a “currency” in the legal sense of the term. Instead, the IMAI had insisted that cryptocurrencies were more in the nature of a commodity.

Prof Chandrashekhar Kambar, President, Sahitya Akademi, the National Academy of Letters, gave the award to Prof Kidwai, along with the awardees of other languages, including Dr Shashi Tharoor, at a function presided over by the chief guest, eminent poet and lyricist, Gulzar.

The government has designated Revenue Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey as the Finance Secretary. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has cleared the appointment of Pandey, according to a government statement.
Pandey had taken charge as the Revenue Secretary in November 2018, replacing Hasmukh Adhia who was to retire at the end of the month.
