• A crater in western Australia was formed by a meteor strike more than 2.2 billion years ago and is the world's oldest known impact site, new research published.

• In a path breaking ruling, the Supreme Court on Tuesday said Parliament should "rethink" whether the Speaker of a House should continue to have powers to disqualify lawmakers as such a functionary "belongs to a particular political party".


• Parliament may seriously consider amending the Constitution to substitute Speaker of Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies as an arbiter of disqualification issues with "a permanent tribunal headed by a retired Supreme Court Judge or a retired Chief Justice of a High Court" or some other mechanism to ensure swift and impartial decisions, the Supreme Court said.

• Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has assets worth Rs 3.4 crore, an increase of Rs 1.3 crore from 2015, according to his election affidavit. Mr Kejriwal's total assets were worth Rs 2.1 crore in 2015.


• The cash and fixed deposits of Mr Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal increased from Rs 15 lakh in 2015 to Rs 57 lakh in 2020.

• Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has extended the last date to apply for Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (MH SET) 2020. The application process which was to conclude today, i.e. on January 22, will now end on January 29.


• After the application process is over, applicants will be allowed to make corrections in their application forms from January 31 to February 6, 2020.

• Tamil Nadu Teacher Recruitment Board (TN TRB) will begin online application for the recruitment of Lecturers in Government Polytechnic Colleges and Special Institutions.


• The direct recruitment of Lecturers for Polytechnic colleges was announced for 2017-18. The Recruitment Board intends to recruit eligible candidates for 1,060 vacant posts. This includes 1,058 current vacancies and 2 shortfall vacancies.

• Money managers remain optimistic but not ecstatic about the global economy, according to Bank of America Merrill Lynch's monthly fund manager survey released.


• The latest survey reveals that a net 36% of managers expect global growth to improve over the next year, up 7 percentage points from last month and the highest level since February 2018.


• Meanwhile, inflation expectations went up 14 percentage points from last month to a net 56% of survey participants expecting a higher global consumer price index in the next 12 months, the highest level since November 2018.

• Former principal secretary to the Prime Minister, Nripendra Misra, has been appointed chairperson of the executive council of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML).


• According to the order dated January 14, the Executive Council (EC) of the NMML has been reconstituted and it will be now chaired by Misra.
