• In a rare public sermon on Friday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei hit out at Germany, France and the UK for being the "errand boys of the US" who were not trustworthy and also mocked US officials as "clowns".

• A rare 1937 Edward VIII sovereign coin has been bought by a private collector for 1 million pounds ($1.31 million), making it the most expensive British coin ever.


• The coin was one of six prepared by the Royal Mint when Edward became king in 1936 and was due to be mass-produced for general circulation from January 1, 1937.

• YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, a special court for Central Bureau of Investigation cases rejected his petition seeking postponement of money laundering cases filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate.

• The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released the admit cards of selection test to admit students in Class IX against the vacant seats. The NVS admission test for class IX will be conducted on February 8, 2020.


• Students who have applied to appear in the exam can download the admit cards from NVS website navodaya.gov.in. Candidates will have to use their registration number and password to download their admit card.

• The tax department on January 17 raised GST collection target to Rs 1.15 lakh crore over the next two months and Rs 1.25 lakh crore for March month by checking fraudulent input tax credit claims.
