• Multiple rockets hit near the US embassy in Iraq’s capital early, an American military source said, the 19th attack against US assets in the country since late October.

• The head of NATO dismissed French president Emmanuel Macron’s call for a European “strategic dialogue” about the role of France’s nuclear weapons, saying a “tried and tested” deterrent was already in place.


• NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Saturday that thanks to the US and Britain’s atomic weapons, Europe was already protected by a longstanding and effective nuclear umbrella.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil a 63-feet tall statue of Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya in Varanasi.


• The ‘panchaloha’ statue is the tallest statue of the leader in the country. Over 200 artisans have worked for almost a year in order to complete the structure. PM will unveil the statue during the inauguration of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Memorial Centre here.

• Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa today said his country fully supported India's bid for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).


• He is on a two-day visit to Goa. Mr. Sousa said, "India has the full support of Portugal to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council."


• Mr. Sousa said India will participate in the 2020 UN Ocean Conference to be held between June 2-6 in Lisbon in Portugal.

• Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) will begin the class 10th board exam from tomorrow, February 17, 2020. The class 10th board exam will continue till February 24, 2020.


• The class 10 examinations will be conducted in two shifts, the morning shift from 9:30 am to 12:45 noon, and the evening shift from 1:45 to 5 pm at 1,368 centres spread across the state.


• A total of 15, 29,393 students have registered for the examination. Out of which, 7, 83,034 students are female, and 7, 46,359 are male.

• The Centre is targeting the resolution of all 483,000 income tax-related legacy disputes worth Rs 9.32 lakh crore that are pending in various tribunals, and expects to unlock about 50% of the amount through its proposed one-time amnesty scheme Vivad se Vishwas (no dispute but trust), two officials said.


• In the Union budget presented on February 1, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the new scheme to resolve direct tax disputes. Under the scheme, penalty and interest will be waived if the disputed amount is paid before March 31, 2020.
