• The US will begin testing people identified by local health authorities as having flu-like symptoms for the novel coronavirus, a senior official said Friday, a significant expansion of the government's response to the epidemic.


• "CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has begun working with five public health labs across the US to tap into their ability to conduct community-based influenza surveillance so that we can begin testing people with flu-like symptoms for novel coronavirus," said Nancy Messonnier, a senior CDC official.

• Egypt confirmed its first coronavirus case and said the affected person was a foreigner who had been put into isolation at hospital.

• President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to India will be a “delightful spectacle” and “utterly successful” by many measures, eminent American experts on South Asia issues have said.


• Trump along with the First Lady is scheduled to visit Ahmedabad and New Delhi on February 24 and 25, according to a White House announcement early this week. • Tripura will collect data as part of the National Population Register updation from May this year through mobile application only, even as the country has been witnessing several protests against NPR, as well as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), a senior official of the directorate of census operations said.

• The annual examination for Class 10 and 12 of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will start in the state from.


• The examination will start with vocational subjects. Examination for core subjects, however, will begin from February 22 for Class 12 and February 25 for Class 10. Psychology will be the first core subject for Class 12 students, while Class 10 students will have to appear for English.

• To deal with the proclivity of banks, especially public sector banks, to routinely push bad loans to National Company Law Tribunals (NCLTs) for resolution, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has suggested that they should only refer cases to a tribunal where the loan amount is at least ₹200 crore.

• The RBI will seek to mop up a whopping ₹2.25-lakh crore via a 14-day variable rate reverse repo auction under its revised Liquidity Management Framework, which was unveiled on February 6.


• This move shows the banking system is awash with liquidity and comes amid rising inflationary pressures. As per the RBI’s sixth bi-monthly monetary policy statement, overall liquidity in the system remained in surplus in December 2019 and January 2020.
