• An advance World Health Organization team of medical experts arrived in China to help investigate the coronavirus outbreak, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in Geneva.

• The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has issued a warning about twin invasion of desert locusts coming to India starting in May, but an official said that the country is prepared to meet the challenge.


• "This year there is a twin danger of swarm invasion from Iran and as well as from the Horn of Africa," FAO's Senior Locust Forecasting Officer Keith Cressman told news agency IANS.

• The Supreme Court held that its 5-judge bench can refer questions of law to a larger bench while exercising its limited power under review jurisdiction in the Sabarimala temple case.


• A nine-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde, rejected vehement preliminary legal objections of senior advocates like FS Nariman and Shyam Divan that a 5-judge bench on November 14 last year was wrong in making a reference to a larger bench without deciding the review petitions challenging the 2018 Sabarimala verdict, which had allowed women of all age group to enter the hill-top shrine in Kerala.

• Resorting to populism and giving a fresh impetus to employment generation, the West Bengal government announced the setting up of 100 business parks for small and medium enterprises in the state in the next three years and proposed free electricity to those with quarterly consumption of up to 75 units in its budget for 2020-21.

• AIIMS has revised the schedule for edit option of Basic Registration for AIIMS PG July 2020. Earlier the edit option for candidates who have completed the Basic Registration process was to commence on February 12 and close on February 14.
