LIC AE Prelims Reasoning Ability

LIC AE 2020 - Preliminary Examination, conducted in online Mode, has: a duration of 20 minutes for each section, a total of 100 questions, a maximum score of 70 marks, and, consists of 3 sections, namely - English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. English Language test will be of qualifying nature and the marks in English Language will not be counted for ranking. Scheme of Preliminary Examination for recruitment to the post of Assistant Engineers (AE) in LIC is as follows:
  • Preliminary Examination consisting of objective test will be conducted online.

  • The test will have three sections (with separate timings for each section).

  • English Language test will be of qualifying nature and the marks in English Language will not be counted for ranking.

Answer - Option B
Explanation- This is a simple division series; each number is one-half of the previous number.
In other terms to say, the number is divided by 2 successively to get the next result.
4/2 = 2 2/2 = 1 1/2 = 1/2 (1/2)/2 = 1/4 (1/4)/2 = 1/8 and so on.

Explanation - This is a simple alternating addition and subtraction series. In the first pattern, 3 is added; in the second, 2 is subtracted.

1. 200 men and 350 women can do a work in 40 days. 70 men and 100 women can do the same work in ‘D’ days. 50 men and 110 women can do the same work in 150 days. Find the value of ‘D’.

Explanation - Applying, M1D1 = M2D2
(200M + 350W) × 40 = (50M + 110W) × 150
⇒ 800M + 1400W = 750M + 1650W
⇒ 50M = 250W
⇒ M = 5W
Now,
(200M + 350W) × 40 = (70M + 100W) × D
⇒ (1000W + 350W) × 40 = (350W + 100W) × D
⇒ D = 1350 × 40 = 120 days 450
Hence, option D is correct.
2. Anil and Mukesh entered into a business and invested money in the ratio 2 : 3. Find the value of Anil’s share, if the ratio of time period of their investments is 3 : 2 respectively and the total profit is Rs. 10000.

Explanation - Ratio of investments = 2 : 3
Ratio of time period of their investments = 3 : 2
Profit will be shared in the ratio (2 × 3) : (3 × 2) = 1 : 1
Anil’s share = 1 × 10000 = Rs. 5000 2
Hence, option C is correct.
1. Pointing to a photograph of a boy Suresh said, "He is the son of the only son of my mother." How is Suresh related to that boy?

Explanation - The boy in the photograph is the only son of the son of Suresh's mother i.e., the son of Suresh. Hence, Suresh is the father of boy.
