Introduction
XAT General Instructions are provided to familiarize the candidates with the different policies and regulations of the Examination, Examination center and in general about the Do’s and Dont’s in the recruitment process. This chapter covers the instructions pertaining to but not limited to: what kind of stationery items to be carried inside the examination hall, particulars to be noted, during the examination, and proof of identity to be submitted.
Instructions
It is advised not to study too much a day before the exam. Candidates are being advised to make arrangements for the exam a day before.
- Entry to the test center is on the basis of admit cards. It is important for all the candidates of XAT 2019 to carry a hard copy of their admit cards. Admit cards were to be downloaded from the official website of XAT. Carry at least 2 copies of XAT 2019 admit card and an identity proof in original.
Note: Candidates must download the admit cards before the last date as no admit cards will be sent to any candidate by post.
- ID Proof: The ID proof must be original. Candidates often forget to carry the important documents for the exam day. Due to which they are not allowed to take the exam. So, candidates must keep at arm’s length from such situations. The ID proof could be a passport, Voter ID, Adhaar card or driving license, or any other ID issued by the Government of India. Candidates must also paste recent passport size photograph on the hall ticket. Also, submit one copy of the admit card to the invigilator.
- Prohibited Items: Test takers are requested not to take any prohibited items inside the exam hall. As this is the computer-based examination, it is not required to carry any kind of study material or stationery items. Also, electronic items, calculators, watches, food items, jewelry are not allowed on the exam day. Candidates have to keep all such items outside the exam hall at their own risk. Scribbled paper and pen will be provided to candidates.
Note: The students must carry a pen, in case of any unforeseen need. The exam centers will not take responsibility for any of your personal items.
- Timings: Reach the XAT 2019 exam center at least an hour before the test begins. As the document verification and bio-metric process take time, it is advisable to reach the test center in time. Candidates can visit the exam center a day before to check the distance and time taken to reach there and ascertain mode of transportation.
Candidates must reach the exam centre latest by 8:30 AM. There is no entry after 9:40 AM. Also, the login for the exam will start at 09:50 AM. The exam will start exactly at 10:00 AM and will be over at 01:00 PM.
Note:Candidates will get 165 minutes to complete Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning, Decision Making, and Data Interpretation & Quantitative Ability. Rest 15 minutes is allocated for General Knowledge section. Extra 10 minutes per hour is allotted to Visually Impaired Candidates.
- It is advisable not to carry food items to the exam venue as well because the candidates will not be allowed to eat anything during the exam. They will be provided with drinking water at the center, though.
- Dress Code: Importantly, the exam conducting has not released any specific instructions for dress code. So, in such case, candidates can wear anything comfortable. For footwear, it will be better if the fingers are visible. Avoid any kind of jewelry, metal chains, belts, open hair etc.
- Biometric Process: Candidates must put their signatures on the admit card in the presence of invigilator only. Also, co-operate during the biometric process. Candidates must not have any kind of artificial tattoos on the fingers.
- Most importantly, each candidate must leave stress and nervousness at home and carry positivity and confidence to the exam center. Candidates must stay calm and composed during the exam and write the test to the best of their ability without losing focus.
Note:
Any request for the change of exam entre will not be entertained by the exam body. XAT 2019 will conduct in 46 cities all over India.

XAT General Instructions – Guidelines for Photograph
Before applying online a candidate will be required to have a scanned (digital) image of his/ her photograph and signature as per the specifications given below.
- In Case the face in the photograph or signature is unclear, the application may be rejected.
- Candidate may edit the application and re-upload the photograph/ signature in such case.
Photograph Image
- Photograph must be a recent passport size colour picture.
- The picture should be in colour, against a light-coloured, preferably white, background.
- Look straight at the camera with a relaxed face.
- If the picture is taken on a sunny day, have the sun behind you, or place yourself in the shade, so that you are not squinting and there are no harsh shadows.
- If you have to use flash, ensure there's no "red-eye".
- If you wear glasses make sure that there are no reflections and your eyes can be clearly seen.
- Caps, hats and dark glasses are not acceptable. Religious headwear is allowed but it must not cover your face.
- Dimensions 200 x 230 pixels (preferred).
- Size of file should be between 20kb-50kb.
- Ensure that the size of the scanned image is not more than 50KB. If the size of the file is more than 50KB, then adjust the settings of the scanner such as the DPI resolution, no. of colours etc., during the process of scanning.
- The applicant has to sign on white paper with Black Ink pen.
- The signature must be signed only by the applicant and not by any other person.
- The Signature will be used to put on the ADMIT CARD and wherever necessary.
- The Applicant’s signature obtained on the ADMIT CARD and attendance sheet at the time of the examination should match the uploaded signature. In case of mismatch, the candidate may be disqualified.
- Dimensions 140 x 60 pixels (preferred).
- Size of file should be between 10kb —20kb.
- Ensure that the size of the scanned image is not more than 20KB.
- Set the scanner resolution to a minimum of 200 dpi (dots per inch).
- Set Color to True Color.
- File Size as specified above.
- Crop the image in the scanner to the edge of the photograph/ signature, then use the upload editor to crop the image to the final size (as specified above).
- The image file should be JPG or JPEG format. An example file name is: image01.jpg or image01.jpeg Image dimensions can be checked by listing the folder files or moving the mouse over the file image icon. Candidates using MS Windows/ MS Office can easily obtain photo and signature in .jpeg format not exceeding 50KB & 20KB respectively by using MS Paint or MS Office Picture Manager. Scanned photograph and signature in any format can be saved in .jpg format by using 'Save As' option in the File menu and size can be reduced below 50KB (photograph) & 20KB (signature) by using crop and then resize option.
