Direction(1-4): In each series, look for the degree and direction of change between the numbers. In other words, do the numbers increase or decrease, and by how much. 1. Look at this series: 80, 10, 70, 15, 60, ... What number should come next?
    A. 20 B. 25 C. 30 D. 50

Answer - Option A
Explanation - This is an alternating addition and subtraction series. In the first pattern, 10 is subtracted from each number to arrive at the next. In the second, 5 is added to each number to arrive at the next.
2. Look at this series: 2, 6, 18, 54, ... What number should come next?
    A. 108 B. 148 C. 162 D. 216

Answer - Option C
Explanation - This is a simple multiplication series. Each number is 3 times more than the previous number.
3. Look at this series: 5.2, 4.8, 4.4, 4, ... What number should come next?
    A. 3 B. 3.3 C. 3.5 D. 3.6

Answer - Option D
Explanation - In this simple subtraction series, each number decreases by 0.4.
4. Look at this series: 8, 6, 9, 23, 87 , ... What number should come next?
    A. 128 B. 226 C. 324 D. 429

Answer - Option D
Explanation - 8 x 1 - 2 = 6
6 x 2 - 3 = 9
9 x 3 - 4 = 23
23 x 4 - 5 = 87
87 x 5 - 6 = 429 ...
Direction(5): Find the statement that must be true according to the given information.
5. Vincent has a paper route. Each morning, he delivers 37 newspapers to customers in his neighborhood. It takes Vincent 50 minutes to deliver all the papers. If Vincent is sick or has other plans, his friend Thomas, who lives on the same street, will sometimes deliver the papers for him.
    A. Vincent and Thomas live in the same neighborhood. B. It takes Thomas more than 50 minutes to deliver the papers. C. It is dark outside when Vincent begins his deliveries. D. Thomas would like to have his own paper route.

Answer - Option A
Explanation - The fact that Vincent and Thomas live on the same street indicates that they live in the same neighborhood. There is no support for any of the other choices.
Direction(1-3): In each of the following questions, you are given a figure (X) followed by four alternative figures (1), (2), (3) and (4) such that figure (X) is embedded in one of them. Trace out the alternative figure which contains fig. (X) as its part.
1. Find out the alternative figure which contains figure (X) as its part.
    A. 1 B. 2 C. 3 D. 4

Answer - Option B
Explanation -
2. Find out the alternative figure which contains figure (X) as its part.
    A. 1 B. 2 C. 3 D. 4

Answer - Option D
Explanation -
3. Find out the alternative figure which contains figure (X) as its part.
    A. 1 B. 2 C. 3 D. 4

Answer - Option D
Explanation -
Direction(4-5): Find the statement that must be true according to the given information.
4. The Pacific yew is an evergreen tree that grows in the Pacific Northwest. The Pacific yew has a fleshy, poisonous fruit. Recently, taxol, a substance found in the bark of the Pacific yew, was discovered to be a promising new anticancer drug.
    A. Taxol is poisonous when taken by healthy people. B. Taxol has cured people from various diseases. C. People should not eat the fruit of the Pacific yew. D. The Pacific yew was considered worthless until taxol was discovered.

Answer - Option C

5. Erin is twelve years old. For three years, she has been asking her parents for a dog. Her parents have told her that they believe a dog would not be happy in an apartment, but they have given her permission to have a bird. Erin has not yet decided what kind of bird she would like to have.

1. The total of the ages of Amar, Akbar and Anthony is 80 years. What was the total of their ages three years ago ?
    A. 71 years B. 72 years C. 74 years D. 77 years

Answer - Option A
Explanation - Required sum = (80 - 3 x 3) years = (80 - 9) years = 71 years.
2. Two bus tickets from city A to B and three tickets from city A to C cost Rs. 77 but three tickets from city A to B and two tickets from city A to C cost Rs. 73. What are the fares for cities B and C from A ?
    A. Rs. 4, Rs. 23 B. Rs. 13, Rs. 17 C. Rs. 15, Rs. 14 D. Rs. 17, Rs. 13

Answer - Option B
Explanation - Let Rs. x be the fare of city B from city A and Rs. y be the fare of city C from city A.
Then, 2x + 3y = 77 ...(i) and
3x + 2y = 73 ...(ii)
Multiplying (i) by 3 and (ii) by 2 and subtracting, we get: 5y = 85 or y = 17.
Putting y = 17 in (i), we get: x = 13.
3. A, B, C, D and E play a game of cards. A says to B, "If you give me three cards, you will have as many as E has and if I give you three cards, you will have as many as D has." A and B together have 10 cards more than what D and E together have. If B has two cards more than what C has and the total number of cards be 133, how many cards does B have ?
    A. 22 B. 23 C. 25 D. 35

Answer - Option C
Explanation - Clearly, we have :
B - 3 = E ...(i)
B + 3 = D ...(ii)
A + B = D + E+10 ...(iii)
B = C + 2 ...(iv)
A + B + C + D + E = 133 ...(v)
From (i) and (ii), we have : 2 B = D + E ...(vi)
From (iii) and (vi), we have : A = B + 10 ...(vii)
Using (iv), (vi) and (vii) in (v), we get:
(B + 10) + B + (B - 2) + 2B = 133 [latex]\Rightarrow[/latex] 5B = 125 [latex]\Rightarrow[/latex] B = 25.
Direction(4-5): In each of the following questions, you are given a combination of alphabets and/or numbers followed by four alternatives (1), (2), (3) and (4). Choose the alternative which is closely resembles the water-image of the given combination.
4. Choose the alternative which is closely resembles the water-image of the given combination.
    A. 1 B. 2 C. 3 D. 4

Answer - Option D
5. <Choose the alternative which is closely resembles the water-image of the given combination.
