Joint Entrance Examination Mains (JEE Mains), formerly known as All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), is organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India on a yearly basis. JEE Mains is for admission to various undergraduate engineering and architecture courses in institutes accepting the AIEEE score, mainly 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and 23 Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs), 23 Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), 20 Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur.
AIEEE (originally called sometimes), was renamed as Joint Entrance Examination (Main) in April 2017. The AIEEE was generally held on the last Sunday of April and results were announced in the last week of May or the first week of June. Post the rename, the exam is held in the first week of April. Candidates are ranked on an all-India basis and on the state basis. The students are thus awarded, an All India Rank (AIR) and a State Rank (SR).

The JEE Mains 2018, one of the prestigious engineering exams, is all set to be conducted on Sunday, April 8 in pen-paper (offline) mode. The computer-based (online) exam will take place on April 15 and April 16, 2018. The exam will be conducted at different centers located in 112 cities across India and abroad ( JEE Mains 2018 - Exam Centers)

The examination consists of only two papers: Paper 1 for B.E./BTech [Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Technology] courses and Paper 2 for BArch [ Bachelor of Architecture] courses. A candidate can opt for any or both the papers. Candidates attempting Paper 1 can select one of the two modes of writing the test: Pen & Paper (or)Online.
Paper 1:
  • 3 subject sections: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Each one of the 3 subject sections consists of 30 questions each with equal weightage for every question. Multiple choice objective-type questions with four choices.

    • Total Number Of Questions - 90
    • Duration - 3 hours.
    • Total Marks - 360
    • Language / Medium of question paper: All candidates will be given the option to write the JEE Main exam in English or Hindi except for candidates from Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli who can opt for Gujarati
    • Negative Marking - Yes
    • Every correct answer will receive 4 marks each and every wrong answer will receive a negative marking of -1 mark
    • There is no negative marking for unanswered questions.

    • Paper 2:
    • 3 subject sections: Mathematics , Aptitude, and Drawing. Mathematics, and Aptitude sections have multiple choice objective-type questions and the Drawing section has drawing-based questions.
    • Mode of Exam - Online/Offline
    • Total Number Of Questions - 82
    • Section Wise Questions - Mathematics : 30 questions ; Aptitude : 50 Questions ; Drawing : 2 Questions
    • Duration - 3 hours.
    • Total Marks - 390( 4 marks for each question in Mathematics & Aptitude, 35 marks for each question in Drawing Test)
    • Language / Medium of question paper: All candidates will be given the option to write the JEE Main exam in English or Hindi except for candidates from Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli who can opt for Gujarati
    • Negative Marking - Yes
    • For all incorrect answers in Mathematics & Aptitude, 1 mark is deducted. No mark will be deducted for un-attempted questions. No negative marking in Part 3. There is no negative marking for unanswered questions in mathematics & Aptitude.

    Below mentioned are some of the DO's and DONT's to be followed by aspirants of JEE Mains 2018 on the Test Day
    DO's: [Detailed Test Day Instructions] 1. Do reach the exam center at least 2.5 hours before the examination.
    Paper I:
  • Entry in the examination hall for frisking (thorough checking): 7 am
  • Test booklet distribution: 9:20 am
  • Last entry in the examination hall: 9:30 am

  • Paper II:
  • Entry in the examination hall for frisking: 12:45 pm
  • Test booklet distribution: 1:50 pm
  • Last entry in the examination hall: 2 pm

  • 2. Use only black or blue ball point pen in the examination. 3. Be seated on your allocated seat during the examination. 4. Do take your admit card and photo ID proof to the exam center. 5. SC/ST category students, you must carry caste certificate for verification. 6. Architecture candidates should bring their own geometry box set, pencils, erasers and color pencils or crayons for aptitude test in architecture. 7. Diabetic candidates can carry eatables like sugar tablets/fruits (like banana/apple/ orange) and transparent water bottle inside the hall. However, they cannot carry packed foods like chocolate/candy/sandwich in the examination hall.
    DONT's: [Detailed Test Day Instructions] 1. Do not be late. candidates will not be allowed to enter the exam hall once the exam has started 2. Do not carry any electronic device such as mobile phones, calculators, etc. inside the exam hall. 3. Do not carry any piece of paper or notes inside the exam hall. 4. Do not talk to other candidates or create any kind of distraction.

    shape Tips To Ace

    Below provided are some of the tips to ace the JEE Mains 2018 Exam.
  • In the first 5-10 minutes, quickly glance through the entire question paper.

  • Attempt easy questions first in your strongest areas.

  • Mark the answers carefully in the OMR sheet.

  • Do not get upset if any section is tough or if you are unable to arrive at an answer. Move on to the next question.

  • Avoid too much of guess work as there is negative marking (-1 mark for each wrong answer). Unanswered questions do not carry negative marking.
