ESIC Recruitment Exam Pattern

Understanding the exam pattern and syllabus will help the candidates in devising effective preparation strategies. Speed/ Time management is vital in obtaining a good score in any competitive exam and hence, analysis of ESIC UDC & Steno Exam Pattern and syllabus is very crucial to be able to complete the exams in the stipulated time.
The ESIC UDC & Steno Selection Process will be done through three and two phases respectively. i.e, Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Computer Skill Test for Upper Division Clerk (UDC), and the selection process for Stenographer involves Main Examination, Computer Skill Test and Stenography Test.

Scheme of Examination for recruitment to the post of Upper Division Clerk (UDC) in ESIC is as follows:
Scheme of Preliminary Examination for recruitment to the post of Upper Division Clerk (UDC) in ESIC is as follows:

  • Preliminary Examination is an objective test.

  • The test will have four sections.

  • The overall test duration is for 1 hour (No separate sectional duration).

  • The test contain 200 questions with Maximum of 200 marks.

  • Phase –I Preliminary Examination is qualifying in nature and marks will not be reckoned for final merit.

  • For each wrong answer, there will be a negative marking of one fourth of the mark assigned to that question.

  • The candidates will be shortlisted for Phase-II in the ratio of 1:10 i.e. about 10 times the number of vacancies in each category on the basis of their performance in Phase - I.
Scheme of Main Examination for recruitment to the post of Upper Division Clerk (UDC) in ESIC is as follows:

  • Main Examination is an objective test.

  • The test will have four sections.

  • The overall test duration is for 2 hour (No separate sectional duration).

  • The test contain 200 questions with Maximum of 200 marks.

  • Computer Skill Test is Qualifying in nature.

  • The test will have three parts.

  • The overall test duration is for 30 minutes (No separate sectional duration).

  • Main Examination is an objective test.

  • The test will have three sections (with separate timings for each section).

(a) Computer Skill Test:

  • Computer Skill Test is Qualifying in nature.

  • The test will have three parts.

  • The overall test duration is for 30 minutes (No separate sectional duration).

(b) Stenography Test:

  • Stenography Test for 10 minutes with a speed of 80 words per minute in English or Hindi and transcription of the same on computer for one hour.

  • VH candidate will be required to transcribe the matter in 85 minutes for English Shorthand or in 95 minutes for Hindi Shorthand for the post of Stenographer.
