TOEFL Test Eligibility

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a comprehensive analysis of an individual’s ability to express thoughts and understand others with English as a mode of communication. If an individual is a non-native English speaker in the USA or the United Kingdom or aspires to go there to propel his/her career by enrolling in a good university, then achieving a good score in TOEFL can certainly boost the chance of acceptance into a good university.
With the outline of the course being originally formulated at the Center for Applied Linguistics under the supervision of Dr. Charles Ferguson, TOEFL is administered and conducted by Educational Testing Service (ETS). TOEFL is a standardized test to check the linguistic ability of people for admission to multiple academic and professional institutes.

There is no particular eligibility criteria set by ETS for the aspirants of TOEFL. Any candidate with a valid and acceptable identification (which clearly shows name, photograph, and signature) is eligible to take the TOEFL test.   • The ID document should be an original document; photocopied documents are not acceptable.

  • The ID document should be a government-issued national/state/province identity card that is recognized by the country in which the candidate is a citizen or permanent resident.

  • The ID document should be valid; expired documents (bearing expiration dates that have passed) are not acceptable.

  • The ID document should bear full name exactly (excluding accents) as it was when registering for the test including a recent, recognizable photograph.

  • The ID document should include the candidates signature. (the name and signature on the ID document must match)

Before applying for the TOEFL IBT test, it is fundamental for the candidate to determine his qualification. In the event that a candidate neglects to meet the eligibility for TOEFL iBT Online test, his application might be rejected. This test can be taken by –
  • Any student who is planning to seek higher education in another country where the native language is English.

  • Any scholarship and certification applicants.

  • Any person who is learning the English language and wishes to track his progress.

  • Any students or workers who are applying for visas in another country.
The TOEFL test (both TOEFL-IBT and TOEFL-PBT) is open to any student can register the test.
Everyone and anyone can register for TOFEL. As we come to age eligibility TOFEL didn’t mention any age limit for candidates. But as per the suggestion Minimum, 16 years is the good age to attend the TOFEL.
Same as the age, qualification is not mandatory. But students who have passed 10+2 level of any recognized Indian Board or University is a suitable qualification can take the TOEFL test. Because the level of the test is very high.
Since the TOEFL score is used is utilized as a measure of English language proficiency of a candidate by the universities and institutions of United States and outside, the applicants learning at the secondary school level or higher can take this test to acquire a TOEFL score.
As per the ETS organization, they estimated that about more than 30 million candidates from all over the world have registered and appeared for TOEFL test bot iBT and CBT till now.
  • There is no particular eligibility criteria set by ETS for the aspirants of TOEFL.

  • Any candidate with a valid passport (which clearly shows name, photograph, and signature) is eligible to take the GRE test. No other identity proofs are accepted except the original passport (not photocopies).

  • The first name, last name, and date of birth given at the time of registration has to match with the identification proof presented by the test taker on the day of the test.

  • In India, the only identification proof accepted at a GRE test center is a valid passport.

  • Unless the ID document is valid on the day of the test the test taker will not be allowed to take the TOEFL.

  • Test takers can register for the GRE if they have applied for a passport or plan to apply for one before taking the TORFL.

  • The TOEFL test has over 50 test dates per year at authorized test centers around the world.

  • The test takers retake the test as many times as you wish, but you cannot take it more than once in a 3-day period. If you already have a test appointment, you cannot register for another test date that is within 3 days of your existing appointment.

  • The registration fee is due each time you register for a test date.

  • The TOEFL test retake policy will be enforced even if a violation is not immediately identified (for example, inconsistent registration information).
