Reasoning is an important section in the employment related competitive exams in India. In particular, exams like LIC ADO, IBPS, SBI, SIB, Insurance, IDBI and other bank related employment exams have Reasoning questions along with Quantitative Aptitude. The Reasoning section primarily has questions related to the Syllogism, Directions, and Inequality , etc. This article presents LIC ADO Prelims Reasoning Practice Set 3 for acing the LIC ADO Prelims Examination.

Directions (1-5): The following questions are based on the five three letter words given below.
Seven Professors A, B, C, D, E, F and G live on a separate floor each of a 7-floor building but not necessarily in the same order. The ground floor is numbered 1, the first floor is numbered 2 and so on until the topmost floor is numbered 7. They all take lectures on different days of the week starting from Monday to Sunday.
C takes lecture on Tuesday and lives on an odd numbered floor but not on top floor. One person live between C and the one who takes lecture on Wednesday. Three persons live between E and the one who takes lecture on Wednesday. G who takes lecture on Friday lives below E. F lives on floor number 2. A lives on an odd numbered floor but not on ground floor. D takes lecture on Sunday. No one takes lecture before F. The number of person lives between the one who takes lecture on Sunday and the one who takes lecture on Saturday is the same as in between the one who takes lecture on Monday and the one who takes lecture on Sunday. B lives above the one who takes lecture on Thursday.
1. Who lives on the floor immediately above G?

2. On which of the following floor number does E live?
    A. Seven B. One C. Three D. Five

3. How many persons live between E and the one who takes his lecture on Friday?
    A. Three B. More than three C. None D. One

4. The one who lives on floor number six takes lecture on which among the following day?
    A. Monday B. Thursday C. Friday D. Saturday

5. How many persons take lecture between B and E?
    A. Two B. One C. Three D. None

Explanation [1 - 5] -
F lives on floor number 2. No one takes lecture before F. A lives on an odd numbered floor but not on ground floor. C takes lecture on Tuesday and lives on an odd numbered floor but not on top floor. One person lives between C and the one who takes lecture on Wednesday. Three persons live between E and the one who takes lecture on Wednesday. G who takes lecture on Friday lives below E. The number of persons living between the one who takes lecture on Sunday and the one who takes lecture on Saturday is the same as in between the one who takes lecture on Monday and the one who takes lecture on Sunday. D takes lecture on Sunday.
We have following possibilities-

Now, B lives above the one who takes lecture on Thursday. This will eliminate Case 1. So the final arrangement will be-

1. (i) In a family of six persons A, B, C, D, E and F, there are two married couples. (ii) D is grandmother of A and mother of B. (iii) C is wife of B and mother of F. (iv) F is the grand daughter of E. Who among the following is one of the couples ?

Answer - Option D
Explanation -
C is wife of B. So, one couple is BC. Now, D in grandmother of A, B is the son of D and his wife C is the mother of F. SO, D is also the grandmother of F But F is the granddaughter of E.
So, E is the grandfather of F and the husband of D. Thus, DF is another couple
2. A family consists of six members P, Q, R, S, T and U. There are two married couples. Q is a doctor and the father of T. U is grandfather of R and is a contractor. S is grandmother of T and is a housewife. There is one doctor, one contractor, one nurse, one housewife and two students in the family. Which of the following is definitely a group of male members ?
    A. QU B. QUT C. QUP D. UT

Explanation -
Q, the Doctor, is the father of T. S, the Housewife, is the grandmother of T and hence the mother of Q. Since there are only two married couples one being that of Q, the grandfather of R. i.e, U must be married to S. Thus, R and T will be both children of Q and these must be the students So, P, who remains, shall be the wife of Q and she alone can be the nurse. Thus, U must be the contractor
Clearly, for definite the males are Q, the father and U, the grandfather
3. Q is the brother of R; P is the sister of Q; T is the brother of S; S is the daughter of R. Who are the cousins of Q ?

Explanation -
T is the brother of S, who is the daughter of R. So, T and S are the children of R.
Now. Q is the brother of R. So, T and S are the cousins of Q.
4. One morning after sunrise, Vimal started to walk. During this walking he met Stephen who was coming from opposite direction. Vimal watch that the shadow of Stephen to the right of him (Vimal). To Which direction Vimal was facing?

Explanation -
Sun rises in the east. So the shadow of a man will always falls towards the west. Since the shadow of Stephen is to the right of Vimal. Hence Vimal is facing towards South.
5. P started from his house towards west. After walking a distance of 25 m. He turned to the right and walked 10 m. He then again turned to the right and walked 15 m. After this he is to turn right at 135o and to cover 30 m. In which direction should he go?
