Answers and Explanations
1. Answer - Option C
Explanation [1-5]-
● Both vacant floors are even floor and 2nd floor is not vacant. So we get these combinations (8,6) (6,4) and (8,4).
Case 1: Vacant-4th and 6th–
● R likes Black and lives just below the vacant floor but not on the 5th floor. So R must live on 3rd floor.
● Two persons are staying between R and N who is not staying on the 7th floor. N must live on 8th floor.
● The one who likes Pink is staying one floor above M who lives on an odd numbered floor. So M must live on 5th floor and the one who likes Pink must live on 7th floor.
● One person is staying between Q and O. Q is not staying adjacent to M’s floor. From this we cannot get O’s and Q’s position so this case gets rejected.
Floor Person Colour
8 N
7 Pink
6 Vacant Vacant
5 M
4 Vacant Vacant
3 R Black
2
1

Case 2: Vacant-8th and 6th–
● R likes Black and lives just below the vacant floor but not on the 5th floor. So R must live on 7th floor.
● Two persons are staying between R and N who is not staying on the 7th floor. N must live on 3rd floor.
● The one who likes Pink is staying one floor above M who lives on an odd numbered floor. So M must live on 1st floor and the one who likes Pink must live on 3rd floor.
● One person is staying between Q and O. Q is not staying adjacent to M’s floor. Q must live on 4th and O must live on 2nd floor.
● The one who likes Orange is staying just above the one who likes Blue. Q doesn’t like Blue color. So O must like Orange and M must like Blue.
● P likes Red but doesn’t live on the 5th floor. So this case gets rejected.
Floor Person Colour
8 Vacant Vacant
7 R Black
6 Vacant Vacant
5
4 Q
3 N Pink
2 O Orange
1 M Blue

Case 3: Vacant-8th and 4th–
● R likes Black and lives just below the vacant floor but not on the 5th floor. So R either lives on 7th or 3rd floor.
● Two persons are staying between R and N who is not staying on the 7th floor. If R lives on 3rd floor then N must live on 7th floor but that is not correct so R must live on 7th floor and N must live on 3rd floor.
● The one who likes Pink is staying one floor above M who lives on an odd numbered floor. So M must live on 1st floor and the one who likes Pink must live on 3rd floor.
● One person is staying between Q and O. Q is not staying adjacent to M’s floor. Q must live on 5th and O must live on 2nd floor.
● The one who likes Orange is staying just above the one who likes Blue. Q doesn’t like Blue color. So O must like Orange and M must like Blue.
● P likes Red but doesn’t live on the 5th floor. So P must live on 6th floor and Q must like Green color.
Here is the final table:
Floor Person Colour
8 Vacant Vacant
7 R Black
6 P Red
5 Q Green
4 Vacant Vacant
3 N Pink
2 O Orange
1 M Blue

R lives just above the one who likes Red.
